Local 800 Executive Board

We represent 500 members in eight different Jewish communal agencies, including Fundraisers, Case Managers, Executive Assistants, Drivers, Social Workers, Pantry Managers, Bookkeepers, Janitors, Nursery School and Kindergarten Teachers, IT Specialists, Program Specialists, Accountants, Residential Counselors, Job Developers, Graphic Artists, and a diversity of others serving the community.

The highest body of the union is the General Membership, which meets four times a year.  Meetings are held after work, and sometimes both in the Valley and at 6505 Wilshire, to enable as many members as possible to attend.  The membership votes on the union's annual budget, the financial reports, and constitutional amendments.  Within an agency, members vote to elect the contract bargaining team when it is time for contract negotiations, and to ratify (or not) the terms of the collective bargaining agreement reached between the team and management.

Every two years, the General Membership elects officers and Executive Board members, all of whom are volunteers.  The Executive Board meets monthly.  All union members are welcome to attend Executive Board meetings.

Charlie Orlowski, an Accountant at Jewish Vocational Service, is currently President of the union.  He can be reached by phone at 323-761-8888 ex. 8869 and via e-mail at corlowski@jvsla.org.  (For a listing of all members on the Executive Board, see the category, at left, "Local 800 Executive Board.")

Remember: you have the right to Union representation in any disciplinary meeting with management. (This is known as the Weingarten Rights.)  Our professional union representative is Gary Guthman.  If you have questions about the union or what is happening on your job, you may reach Gary at Gary@afscme36.org or 213-248-0381

AFSCME Local 800 is a union of, by, and for its members. All members are welcome to attend monthly Executive Board meetings: to meet the E-Board members; to see what goes on at the meetings; to ask questions and give input, whether you are a member of the E-Board or not. OUR NEXT EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING IS THURSDAY January 19, 5:30 PM, at the Jewish Federation building at 6505 Wilshire in Los Angeles. The Executive Board consists of members who volunteer their time, and we currently have vacancies, so consider becoming involved -- but as a member, you are invited to attend a meeting, whether or not your personal schedule has room for a once-a-month commitment.
